The Mighty Eleazar March 9, 2008
The Greek meaning of this name: Eleazar = help of GodThe Hebrew meaning: Eleazar = God has helped
In Brief:Any man who could kill eight hundred men in a single battle was a mighty warrior, but Christians don’t wage war as the world does. Christians fight spiritual battles with spiritual weapons and Paul tells us that the weapons of our warfare are mighty: they have power in God to demolish (spiritual) strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:3–4). Our most important spiritual weapons are prayer, fasting, and the Word of God.
If you wage war against an enemy—whether seen or unseen—you need to know what to do and when to do it. Imagine an army fighting a battle without a leader. A few enemy troops might be killed, but it would not be a successful campaign. Our commander knows everything and sees everything. We need the Spirit of Jesus to lead us in spiritual warfare if we are to be successful.
Brotherhood of believersAs the enemy advanced, Eleazar stood his ground and struck them down until his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The Bible tells us that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). The Word is one of the most powerful spiritual weapons God has given us. When Satan came to Jesus in the desert he was defeated with the words: ‘It is written…’ (Luke 4:8). Satan cannot defeat a believer who knows and cleaves to the Word of God.
Eleazar was victorious that day, but what was his secret? Eleazar means ‘the Lord is my helper’. We cannot fight spiritual battles in our own strength, or with our own power. Success in spiritual warfare comes only from allowing God to work through us.
The Bible also tells us that he was a son of Dodai (Authorized: Dodo), who was an Ahohite. The Hebrew word ‘Dodo’ means ‘loving’ and ‘Ahohite’ comes from a Hebrew word meaning ‘brotherhood’. The spiritual picture is of a man who loved his brothers. As the Philistine army advanced, the Israelites retreated leaving Eleazar by himself. The men of

To all my brethren and sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord, I humbly sent you greetings.
I exalt, praise and give glorious thanks to our Almighty Father in Heaven whom through the grace of our Lord Jesus has brought me back to the family of God. I also want to thank our Lord Jesus Christ with all my heart for only through His agonizing death on the cross and shedding of His blood am I able to stand before Him justified and righteous once again through faith.
Our Almighty God knows that inflicting pain and suffering on me will restore my faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. And for this reason I have been diagnosed with Nose Cancer and at the Thyroid as well. I am presently undergoing treatment at the SJMC. But at the same time He has assured me of His continual love and strength if I turn and trust in Him.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
Lean not on your own understanding
In all ways acknowledge Him
And He will make our paths straight
I am so very thankful to our Lord that my faith has been restored out of His love for me. Each day I find more strength in His presence as I meditate upon His Words and walk with Him. I have submitted my life to His hands and pray earnestly that He will now restore my body and give me more days to serve and labor for His glory and honor. This is my humble prayer for the remaining days of my life, do the work of the Lord.
I also pray earnestly that Our Lord will also restore Ivy, my wife’s faith in Him. She was once baptized in our Lord. In my faith, I know He will not let any soul be lost but be added to the family of God, where we can all one day be united with Christ Himself in our heavenly home and meet Him face to face.
I pray this letter will not cause any distress to any of you but it is my hope and prayer, it will give us encouragement in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the author and perfecter of our faith.
Dicky, your brother in Christ
